Frog Pond Events Guide: Heron, Algae, Flies and Dragonflies

Frog Pond Events Guide: Heron, Algae, Flies and Dragonflies

Frog Pond’s pond happenings start at Pond Level 3 and show up every 4 to 8 minutes while the game is open. There are four: fly swarms and dragonflies are free coins, and algae blooms and herons are small problems you tap away. The quick version: tap a fly swarm about 20 times, grab every dragonfly within 8 seconds, tap algae until the meter fills, and own at least 25 frogs so the heron can never land.

Here’s how each one works under the hood.

How often do pond happenings appear? #

Once you reach Pond Level 3, a new happening arrives 4 to 8 minutes after the previous one ends, and only one runs at a time. The game picks the type at random with these odds:

HappeningChanceLastsType
Fly Swarm30%60 secondsBonus
Dragonfly Visit25%8 secondsBonus
Algae Bloom25%60 secondsProblem
Heron Visit20%30 secondsProblem

Happenings only run while the app is open. Your frogs still earn offline, but nothing happens to the pond while you’re away, so you never come back to a heron raid.

Every payout below is measured in seconds of your production, so events stay worth the same relative amount from your first run to your last.

How do you get the most from a fly swarm? #

A fly swarm holds a pool of flies worth 3 minutes of your production. Your frogs eat from it on their own at 1.5 times your normal rate, and each tap grabs another 5 seconds’ worth.

Left alone, your frogs eat about half the pool before the minute runs out, which is 90 seconds of production. To clear the whole pool you need roughly 18 taps on top of that, so tapping about 20 times during the swarm doubles what you get from it. It’s the best reason to keep the game open.

What does the dragonfly give you? #

A chest worth 3 minutes of production, and it’s there for only 8 seconds. Tap GRAB to take it, or tap ×2 and watch a rewarded ad to take 6 minutes’ worth. If you miss it, it flies off and pays nothing, and it doesn’t count as a resolved happening.

The Generous Pond talent adds 5% per rank to this chest and to every other event payout.

How do you clear an algae bloom fast? #

Algae halves your production for as long as it’s on the pond, up to 60 seconds. You clear it by filling a meter to 1,000:

  • Each tap adds 50.
  • Your frogs add 1 point per second for every frog you own, and each Poison Dart counts six times.

With 20 frogs and no taps, the meter fills in 50 seconds, so you’d lose most of a minute at half speed. Twenty taps clear it immediately. Clearing it pays 45 seconds of production. If the timer runs out first, it goes away on its own and pays 5 seconds’ worth.

The practical move is simple: tap TAP TO HELP about 20 times as soon as algae appears.

How do you stop the heron? #

The heron uses the same 1,000-point meter, with 30 seconds on the clock. Fill it and the heron is scared off, paying 45 seconds of production.

If time runs out, the heron might land. The landing chance starts at 50% and drops 2 percentage points for every frog you own:

Frogs ownedChance the heron lands
050%
1030%
2010%
25 or more0%

If it lands, it takes up to 2% of the coins you’ve earned this run. It never touches coins from earlier runs, your eggs or anything else. If it doesn’t land, you get 10 seconds of production anyway.

So the heron only matters in the first few minutes of a run. Once you own 25 frogs, you can ignore it and still get paid. The Hardy Frogs talent cuts the landing chance by 30% per rank too, but by the time you can buy talents you’ll be past 25 frogs within minutes of every migration.

Which frogs and talents help with events? #

HelperEffect on events
Every frogAdds 1 point per second to algae and heron meters
Poison Dart (Pond Level 11)Each counts as six frogs toward meters, so herons and algae clear much sooner
Hardy Frogs talentMeters fill 20% faster per rank, heron lands 30% less often per rank
Generous Pond talent+5% to event payouts per rank

Poison Darts are the big one. With 25 of them, algae and herons clear themselves in a few seconds without a single tap. Our guide to spending Tadpole Eggs covers when the two talents are worth buying.

Why do resolved happenings matter? #

Beyond the coins, happenings count toward several goals:

  1. Pond Level 5 needs 3 resolved happenings. This is where most new players wait. See the Pond Level guide for the rest of the ladder.
  2. Achievements at 10, 50 and 200 resolved happenings add +1%, +2% and +4% to production permanently.
  3. The Event Marathon Pond Trial asks for 5 happenings in one day.

Every fly swarm, algae bloom and heron counts when it ends, whatever you did. A dragonfly only counts if you grab the chest.

Are events worth playing actively for? #

If you play in short check-ins, you’ll catch some and miss others, and that’s fine. Missing a happening never costs you more than the heron’s 2%, and 25 frogs rule that out. If you like to leave the game open while you do something else, happenings add up: a fly swarm tapped fully is worth 3 minutes of production, and a dragonfly with the ad is worth 6.

Frog Pond is built to reward you for being around without punishing you for leaving, and events are where that shows most. For other ways to speed up a run, see our tips for beginners.

Frequently asked questions #

Can the heron steal all my coins? #

No. The most it can take is 2% of the coins you’ve earned in the current run, and only if it lands. With 25 or more frogs, its chance to land is zero.

Do pond happenings happen while I’m offline? #

No. They only spawn while the game is open. Offline earnings are calculated from your production rate alone.

What’s the best event in Frog Pond? #

The dragonfly with the ×2 ad pays the most for the least effort: 6 minutes of production for one tap and a short video. A fully tapped fly swarm is second at 3 minutes.

Why did algae slow down my pond? #

Algae halves your production while it’s active. Tap the event to fill its meter and clear it, which also pays a 45-second bonus.
